After
spending two and a half weeks in the company of Woodhouse family and their
friends, today my vacation has come to an end, and I have finally bid farewell
to Highbury. What a splendid visit it was! It would be a shame if I do not show
my appreciation towards the people of Highbury by thanking them for all the
entertainment and solace that I found in their company.
To
start with,I was lucky to attend the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Weston of Randalls
on Day 1 of my visit. Although Mr. Woodhouse wasn’t too pleased about the
wedding but in my opinion they were quite suitable for each other. Mrs. Weston,
a very kind lady and Mr. Weston a noble man with pleasant manners were a match
made in heaven; though Ms. Woodhouse boosted that she deserved all the credit
for the match as it was her scheming which led to this arrangement.
At one and twenty, Ms. Woodhouse (Emma) is beautiful, smart, and witty with a
little air of arrogance (which she is unaware of). But have no worries as Mr.
Knightly, her dear friend, is always there to guide her whenever she strays
from the path of humility.
In
the next few days of my visit Ms. Woodhouse introduced me to her neighbours and
one of them was Ms. Bates. I found Ms. Bates pleasing as well as hilarious. She
made me laugh on countless occasions with her non-stop talks. Unlike her Aunt-
Ms. Bates, Ms. Fairfax is a quiet person with elegant manners. Ms. Fairfax
intrigued me a lot as I could sense that there were some secrets behind those
beautiful orbs of hers.
In
the serene beauty of Highbury it was amusing for me to sense the romance
blooming between young souls as the town was full of many. Ms. Smith, Mr.
Elton, Mr. Churchill, Ms. Fairfax, Mr. Martin and our Ms. Woodhouse were all in
their prime age, enjoying their youth and looking for “The ONE”. Although most
of the times during my stay, I kept making wild guesses about whose heart beat
for whom, it was only towards the last few days that I came to know about the
accuracy of my guesses.
The
farewell wasn’t easy, it never is especially when the experience has been
nothing but beautiful. I would always cherish the memories as the people of
Highbury have already occupied a place in my heart. I wish I could tell you
more about them but that would just ruin your experience of visiting Highbury,
which I highly recommend that you should.
But
there is this special person I would like to thank the most, without her this
vacation would not have been possible. My sincere thanks to Ms. Jane Austin for
providing me with a ticket to Highbury. Thank you for sending me to a world
which was faultless in spite of all its faults.
P.S.
Will miss all the gossips of Highbury. Don’t be surprised! Yes, even people of
Highbury gossip. Whether 19th century or 21st, one thing
that even time could not change is – ‘People Gossiping’. :)
