When we read a story, we enter a new world; a world which sometimes seems very much similar to ours and sometimes just like a dream. And as we progress through the pages we unknowingly become a part of this fascinating world. A sense of belongingness starts to creep through our bones and captures our minds and hearts like a traitor.
A few days back, wearing my invisibility cloak, I entered the world of March Family or it would be more appropriate to say March sisters- Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. I was immediately drawn towards these sisters as each was similar to the other yet was different in her own way. Meg’s simplicity and dreams took me back to my 17 years old self when I too had my perfect ‘castle in the air’ in my head. Jo’s ferocity and determination reminded me of the times when I was too adamant to not give up on my dreams easily. Thirteen years old Beth’s humility and gratitude reminded me that there is a sense of pleasure in doing things for others, and Amy, the youngest was an example of a perfectly imperfect kid.
The more I spent time with the March sisters the more I felt a part of their family. Unknowingly, from a mere spectator who was peeking into their lives from a window, I became an involved member taking a full view of their lives right from the centre of their living room, for I rejoiced in their happiness when they surprised their mother with thoughtful gifts on Christmas day, bought selflessly from their little savings. For I shed my tears unashamedly with them during their dark times, concerning the fate of dear little Beth. For I was desperately counting days for the return of Mr March, from the war and unite with his loving family. For I too was inquisitive to know how would Mrs March react to the gossip about her plans to engage her daughter with her rich neighbour. Every time the pages turned I could see the affectionate, headstrong and kind March sisters growing on me and residing in the nook of my heart.
And then came the time to say goodbye because every ‘Once upon a time’, do have a ‘happily ever after’. Or is it so in the case of March family? Well, I leave that for you to discover if you choose to experience the simple yet interesting world of our March sisters. As for me I immensely enjoyed revising the good old life lessons beautifully narrated by the author, Louisa May Alcott through every adventure of March sister's and I am for sure going to miss the ‘Little Women’.
